Our tradition on Christmas Day is to gather in the living room and read the Christmas Story before we open gifts! Regardless of our different traditions, my prayer is that we all are reminded of God’s incredible love for each of us demonstrated by sending his only Son to earth to save us from ourselves.

This Christmas I’m looking forward to doing something a little different. I plan to ask each of my children a question, that I’ll pose to each of us. What comes to mind when you think of the life of Jesus between his birth and death?

For me it’s two things: First his words, “I came not to be served but to serve…” and second I think of the love, compassion, and forgiveness he showed the women caught in adultery and about to be stoned. He transcended culture by serving others and showed us how to love others including those who were marginalized and outcasts.

Regardless of our views of Jesus, one thing is certain. In his short time on earth, he impacted the world like no other person in history ever has. Even our calendar revolves around him with BC & AD. Most people around the world at the very least acknowledge that he was a good man, a prophet, or a teacher. I happen to believe that he is who he said he was, the Son of God! Who do you say he is?

Merry Christmas!

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
